As I prepare for a weekend outdoors, I am reviewing what to do to stay cool, comfortable, and itch free. In order to keep from swelling from the heat, restrict sodium (whether it’s from the salt shaker or processed foods), drink at least 10 cups of water, and remember that an extra cup of water is required for each cup of caffeine and alcohol you consume. If you are already swollen, eat watermelon and lightly steeped green tea for its diuretic properties.
A natural remedy for insects is my trusty Solvarome, an essential oil with geranium and lavendar. Otherwise, I use Quantum Buzz Away a safe and effective spray made with citronella.
