Acupuncture is an ancient form of healing within Traditional Asian Medicine that helps to increase circulation locally, and stimulate energy called “qi” within the body’s meridians. The body’s meridians look much like a river system where the “qi” flows. Acupuncture is the use of thin painless needles to access and release energy blockages and muscular tension.
Your first acupuncture visit is about an hour, and we will go over your intake form, your main complaints, and perform assessments including Tongue and Pulse diagnosis. Next, you will lie on the treatment table (comfortable clothes are suggested) and you may feel a light prick, like an insect bite, when the needles are inserted. These Korean needles are as thin as a hair, fully sterilized and one time use only. I will commonly use an infra-red heat lamp to warm the muscles and aid in relaxation. Many people feel an instant sense of calmness as we focus on therapeutic breathing. Some people feel immediate relief, and others need several treatments. It is common to prescribe 30 minute sessions for 5-10 treatments before reassessing.
Some people can experience an increase in their symptoms for a day or two as their bodies release their poor holding pattern. Many people will notice they can get extremely hungry or tired. It is best to come in neither too full, nor too hungry.
Your acupuncture visit is reserved for you. Please allow more than 24 hours notice to cancel your appointment so that somebody else can benefit from your time.
