Effective February 12, 2014, the services provided by naturopathic doctors are exempt of HST, as announced in the latest federal budget. The Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND) has been lobbying the government for years. As stated on their website, “The move will provide greater access for patients seeking a proactive approach to their health care needs and those looking for an individualized, whole person approach to prevent and treat health issues”.
What does this mean to you? Services payable to an ND will be decreased by 13% effective immediately. This ensures patients will not have to pay taxes on essential primary health care services.
